About Us

The UQ Research Group

We are a research group at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, focused on uncertainty quantification (UQ) and its interface with big data. Our approach is both theoretical and practical. The UQ Group develops new methods and algorithms for UQ tasks to deliver faster, more accurate, and more reliable solutions when UQ meets big data. The UQ Group is involved in modeling applications of UQ tasks using our proposed methods.


Why UQ?

Large scale simulation is often used to study dynamic systems. When simulated prediction is used, it is essential to measure and quantify the uncertainty of the simulation outputs. The goal of UQ is to mathematically measure this uncertainty, or confidence of the predicted values. By doing so, we can control output uncertainties of simulation models with clever designs and thereby control the uncertainty in the unobserved dynamic system, eschewing the need for exhaustive experimentation.
